Progression of Toilet Paper Dispensers
The "modern style" disposable toilet tissue dispenser has been around since the late 19th century. Toilet paper dates back to the late 14th century in china, but the one we are most familiar with was invited by the Albany Perforated Wrapping Paper Company in 1877. Since the invention of toilet paper and toilet paper dispensers some things have really remained the same. Many of the same ideas that worked over 100 years still work today. Here's a patent of the toilet tissue roll from 1891.
Antique Palmer Dispenser
Look at this antique toilet paper dispenser from the late 1800s. This dispenser looks very similar to the dispensers of today. This unique design is made to use the roll completely before the roll is replace. The screw at the end of the dispenser roll holds the toilet tissue in place and it cannot be removed without using all of the toilet tissue. What worked over 100 years ago still works today.

Antique Palmer Toilet Paper Dispenser |
Notice the similarities of the antique toilet tissue dispenser made by Palmer Fixture and the Standard One Roll Chrome Tissue Dispenser RD0381 made by Palmer Fixture and sold today. The technology is very similar. The RD0381 has a concealed self-locking mechanism to prevent theft and a tension spring to reduce the paper from free spinning, because no one, both customer nor business owner wants toilet paper waste. It costs money and is messy. Palmer also carries a dual twin roll tissue dispenser RD0384 that works with the same technology of theft and waste reduction. Bradley carries a single roll stainless steel toilet tissue dispenser Model 5061 that looks very similar to the Palmer antique dispenser. This dispenser also has a locking mechanism to prevent waste and make the user completely empty the roll before changing tissue.
Jumbo Roll Tissue Dispensers
Jumbo Roll Tissue Dispensers use much larger rolls of toilet tissue some up to 14" in diameter (that's over one foot in diameter of toilet tissue). These large diameter toile tissue dispensers have some very important benefits. One you just don't have to change the tissue as often. This reduces maintenance cost and keeps the customer happy as no one wants to run out of toilet tissue. Another very important but not as well known benefit is that the jumbo roll dispensers really reduce any problem you as a business owner may have with toilet paper theft. These jumbo rolls do not fit on standard toilet tissue dispensers so many people leave them alone. I had a plant manager complain that the employees were taking the toilet paper from the supply cabinet. So he replaced the standard roll toilet paper to jumbo roll toilet paper now the tissue stays at the job site.
Antique Oval Toilet Tissue Dispenser
This antique Toilet Paper Holder was patented in 1893 by the Springfield Oval Toilet Paper manufacturer. This shows that not all toilet paper rolls needed to be round they could be oval. This was designed to conserve the amount of paper used in one sitting as the toilet paper automatically stops after 3/4 of a turn and the perforated paper comes off. This just shows that as long as there has been toilet paper the need to conserve the paper has been just as important.

Wet / Dry Toilet Paper Dispensers
A new concept in the USA is the use of the Wet / Dry Toilet Paper dispensers. This is not really a new idea, the Europeans have used bidet systems or wet tissue to clean themselves for years. This is now catching on is the US and once people use a wet / dry toilet paper system, they will not want to go back. NICO makes a model that is made to retrofit over an existing toilet paper dispenser. There are wet/dry cartridges, one wet on one side and one dry on the other side. The wipes are completely flushable and biodegradable and offer a clean and sophisticated alternative to standard toilet tissue.
